Sometimes the simple things aren’t that easy! Bed pillows are no exception. Here are a few tips direct from the Scheuer Linens vault of fine bedding knowledge and experience that might help you create some great arrangements.
- As far as the number of pillows, ask yourself what’s practical.
- Go with an odd number.
- Get different shapes, sizes, and fabric styles.
- Get pillows that you can arrange strategically.
If you have dozens, how will you arrange them? Where will you put them when they’re taken off the bed? And do you really want to spend your time figuring these things out?
Say, 3,5,7 or 9. That way, you can cover the cracks between pillows in a row. It also breaks up the symmetry in a refreshing way.
Place 2 European style pillows (26 in. x 26 in.) with a print case or sham at the back. Then layer in front of those 2 standard pillows (20 in. x 26 in.). Finally, place a small pillow (12 in. x 16 in.) at the very front. Don’t worry about the decorative square ones— their tops will be visible above the others.
If you have prints and solids, try out different arrangements to create an attractive contrast between front and back.
Company is coming and the pillow you sleep on has a stain (whose doesn’t?). The typical reaction is to turn it over. If they can’t see it, they’ll never know! But what do you do if the other side is stained as well? Solution: stick the standard pillows that you sleep on behind the bigger, square pillows.
Use them that way all the time. Or return to the “largest at back, standard in middle, and small in front” arrangement when you put on fresh linens.
