Ever wonder what a linen retailer puts on their New Year’s resolution lists? Here are my top five resolutions for 2011 here at Scheuer Linens:
1. Write a blog item every day, or at least three times a week, for my blog, www.thelinendoctor.com.
I thought I was a writer, so what’s my resistance? At any rate, it’s no secret that if you want your blog to be read, you have to post blog items on a regular basis. They don’t even have to be that long.
2. Visit other stores more often.
I still check out the competition, which includes other web sites and catalogues in the linen industry, but just haven’t gone to see other stores as much as I used to. It never hurts to see what other retailers are doing and I might even get some good ideas.
3. Check out our Facebook fan page more often.
It was a big deal just to establish a fan page for Scheuer Linens in November, now I just have to read the comments that might get posted daily.
4. Read industry and trade publications more often.
This is usually my lowest priority during busy times, like the Christmas season. There’s a lot going on in the linen industry around the world and trade publications are the best way to get an idea of what’s going on. Things are changing so fast that there is more of a need to keep up on current developments. For example, how is the rising cost of cotton going to affect prices in the future.
5. Take more one-hour online seminars.
They only take one hour and if I learn one or two things, it is time worth spent and I don’t even have to leave my desk or computer. Seems like most webinars that I take are related to internet marketing and measuring the results.
It will be fun to read this next year at this time. Happy New Year.
I just went to a search engine optimization (SEO) seminar . The speaker on social media said a company blog needs at least four new entries a month. I think you’re being too hard on yourself about producing blog entries. No need to do it thrice weekly. I also think feeling guilty about not producing blog content is counterproductive. After all, you haven’t written new entries since early January, right? Guilt paralyzes. Fight the guilt!
