Hydrophilic or water-loving by nature, cotton releases soil easily so cotton sheets wash clean and smell fresh throughout their wear-life. When washing cotton sheets, sort items by color, keeping whites, darks, brights and medium colors together. Lighter items can pick up dyes from darker colors. Garments that lint, such as fleece sweat shirts, flannels and chenille robes, should not be washed with your sheets.

Chlorine bleach can be used safely on cotton whites and color safe bleach on dyed cottons. Cold rinse water makes ironing easier. Sheets should be left in the dryer just long enough to remove wrinkles and moisture. If left in too long, the heat can actually "set" wrinkles, increase static cling and cause shrinkage.
